The first thing you need to know about buying a green car is that it’s a huge deal.

You can expect to pay a premium of up to $12,000 for a new car with electric or plug-ins, with the first electric vehicles costing between $20,000 and $30,000.

It’s a good deal if you’re in the market for a green SUV or hatchback.
